Fleeting Fragrance

I started this over a year ago as a half – done life drawing, the model is leaning on a fitball. I liked the pose but it just lay there unfinished, till recently I started adding paint, pastel, charcoal…but it still didn’t look right. Then I was reading about Chinese ink painting, and somehow it seemed to need red. One of the seals was “Fleeting Fragrance” .. the characters at the bottom right. Then I used a bougainvillea flower as a stamp in red paint, and the real flower. Now it has a meaning for me personally an association with being a mother, and how when your children grow up they don’t need you, but you still love them. The accidental drip of white paint, fell stragegically as if a drop of milk from her breast.
